The Georgia Association of Paralegals (GAP) began in 1973 as the Atlanta Association of Legal Assistants, rebranded to serve the entire state in 1997, and now marks more than 50 years of service to the paralegal profession across Georgia. The organization maintains its central office at 3355 Lenox Rd NE, Suite 750, Atlanta, GA 30326, in the Buckhead district of Atlanta.
GAP provides members with access to specialized online legal education delivered by industry leaders, covering a broad range of topics relevant to paralegal practice across different areas of law. Continuing legal education (CLE) courses and professional development workshops form the core of the association’s educational programming. The association also administers a globally recognized certification described on its website as the national benchmark for paralegals, representing career achievement and sustained commitment to professional excellence.
Member benefits include networking opportunities, professional development events, and business partnerships that connect paralegals with legal industry employers and service providers. GAP facilitates collaboration among paralegals working across different practice areas and geographic regions throughout the state. The organization also operates a pro bono and community service initiative, incorporating civic engagement into its professional mission.
Leadership includes Executive Director Dr. Cynthia Bynum, President Joshua Braswell (CRP), and a board of directors with designated portfolios covering membership, continuing legal education, community service, social engagement, communications, and strategic operations. The association describes itself as member-driven, stating that member participation and commitment define its programming and organizational direction.
GAP advocates for paralegal professional interests within state and local bar associations and participates in ongoing discussions about paralegal training standards and the utilization of paralegals by law firms and legal departments. Members can access resources and merchandise through an online shop called The GAP Collective.
The association’s member-driven structure means that individual member engagement directly shapes GAP’s programs, events, and advocacy positions. The organization has represented paralegal interests in Georgia’s legal community for more than five decades. Contact: (404) 576-8707 or info@gaparalegal.com.
