The Abiriba Communal Improvement Union (ACIU) Atlanta is a cultural and community organization dedicated to strengthening connections within the Abiriba community, fostering cultural pride, and supporting meaningful contributions among its members. The organization has an active presence in the Atlanta area and participates in national-level programming through the broader ACIU network.
In 2024, ACIU Atlanta hosted the organization’s National Convention on July 19 and 20 at the Georgia International Convention Center, located at 2000 Convention Center Concourse in College Park, Georgia. Convention programming combined cultural activities, reunion events, and community dialogue across both days. The July 19 schedule included an Atlanta tour to the World of Coca-Cola at 10 AM, followed by a Town Hall meeting at 6 PM. July 20 programming featured “Igwa Mang,” a traditional cultural activity held at Charles E. Phillips Esquire Park at 10 AM, and a formal Gala in the evening at 6 PM.
Youth-focused programming at the convention encompassed a youth party and nightlife expo, hiking, soccer, speed dating, and an after-party, reflecting the organization’s emphasis on engaging members across age groups. Hotel accommodations were arranged at three Airport-area properties: Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway, SpringHill Suites Atlanta Airport Gateway, and AC Hotel Atlanta Airport Gateway. Convention center parking was available at $15 per day, and the free ATL SkyTrain from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport reached the venue in approximately two minutes.
Convention registration required attendees to be 18 or older, with payments handled through local chapters. Advertising opportunities in the convention brochure (“Afa Ukwu”) were offered in sizes ranging from a half-page at $75 to a front inner page at $500.
