At Peace Preparatory Academy, 881 North Ave NW, Atlanta, GA 30318, Capoeira ATL operates as a dedicated school for teaching and preserving Capoeira Regional, the martial art tradition founded by Mestre Bimba in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. The academy is affiliated with Filhos de Bimba – Escola de Capoeira, a global organization led by Mestre Nenel that maintains the cultural, musical, and educational legacy connected to capoeira’s African and Brazilian roots.
Four structured programs are offered to address different age groups and experience levels. Little Warriors, designed for children ages 5 to 9, introduces capoeira through playful and supportive instruction with an emphasis on developing coordination and musicality in a fun environment. Young Warriors, for students ages 10 to 13, builds on that foundation with greater focus on discipline, body awareness, and technical skill development. Capoeira Warriors, open to students ages 14 and up, integrates movement, strength, rhythm, and deeper cultural study. A Capoeira for Beginners program welcomes adult newcomers regardless of prior experience.
Training at the academy deliberately combines physical conditioning with cultural education. Students develop movement technique, agility, and strength while also receiving instruction in traditional capoeira instruments, music, Portuguese language elements tied to the practice, and the structured back-and-forth game that defines the art form. The methodology is described as community-centered, designed to remain accessible to complete beginners while remaining technically substantive enough to engage experienced practitioners looking to advance.
Lead instructor Profesor Malandro has nearly three decades of training, research, teaching, and cultural preservation experience developed as a longtime student of Mestre Nenel. Filhos de Bimba also operates affiliated schools in Oakland, California; Fort Worth, Texas; Detroit, Michigan; and Toronto, Canada, situating the Atlanta academy within an internationally connected network.
