Established in 2017 by owner Neil Newcomb, Atlanta ProWinds specializes in the repair, modification, and customization of woodwind and brass instruments, serving clients across the Atlanta metro from a base in the Lilburn, Georgia area. Newcomb graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2011 with a degree in saxophone performance. Each technician on the team is a freelance musician with formal training in repair, combining technical certification with active performance experience in the Atlanta music scene.
Woodwind services cover flutes, oboes, clarinets, bass clarinets, saxophones, baritone saxophones, and bassoons. Brass services address trumpets, trombones, euphoniums, and tubas. Playing condition adjustments are the primary service tier, priced from $60 to $175 depending on instrument type: flutes run $60 to $120, saxophones $80 to $150, trumpets $60 to $100, and tubas $80 to $120. More extensive offerings include complete overhauls with pad replacement, chemical cleaning, mouthpiece refacing, crack and tenon repair, dent removal, and trombone slide setups and rebuilds. A one-year labor warranty covers overhaul services.
The firm’s technician roster includes Judith Gilbert, a flute specialist who earned a Master’s degree in 2008 and studied repair under Dr. Eldred Spell; Sam Skelton, who has repaired instruments since 1992 after apprenticing under Glen McCoy and Wil Grizzle; and Ben Davis, a 25-year Atlanta music scene veteran who completed a two-year apprenticeship under Newcomb before joining the team. The clientele ranges from Atlanta Symphony Orchestra members and community ensemble musicians to school band students.
